Managing a Startup with Minimal Equity

Entrepreneur and Small Business Forum, sponsored by the Hatchery will be holding a panel discussion on Managing a Startup with Minimal Equity. DreamIt Ventures’ Managing Partner, Kerry Rupp will be speaking, along with Graham Lawlor of UltraLight Startups and Joe Chin, Serial Entrepreneur and current CEO of SourcePad, LLC.

The meeting will focus on two points. First, the panel will discuss methods to run a new business on a lean basis, which in many cases involves transferring some financial risk to other entities within the transaction chain. In other words, those who have a stake in the success of the business, such as suppliers, and those who benefit from the firm, such as clients, share in the overall risk of the enterprise.

Reads from Around the World: Tibet, Tsunamis and TV Talk

Start me up – The Jerusalem Post reports Israeli startups raised more than $2.14 billion in 2011. Competition for funds is stiff; The Economist goes inside a rapid-pitch event in Tel Aviv to meet some of the hopefuls. American incubators are getting into the action; New York-based DreamIt Ventures is expanding its reach creating a joint U.S.-Israel program for Israeli high-tech ventures hoping to break into theAmerican market according to Business Insider.

DreamIt startup accelerator in Israel to be first-of-its-kind hybrid program

by Sue Spolan

It is now time to look toward the land of milk and honey for the latest in tech. “Israel is famous for its technology innovation, though many companies have difficulty expanding into the US and global markets,” says Mitchell Golner, Managing Partner of DreamIt Israel, the latest expansion of the Philadelphia based startup accelerator. After adding a New York City program in 2011, DreamIt Ventures goes global in 2012.

On January 17, applications opened up for Israeli entrepreneurs. Noelle McHugh, DreamIt’s office manager, says companies have already started applying, and DreamIt expects to choose five Israeli startups to accompany 10 US-based entrepreneurs this summer in Manhattan.

DreamIt program helping entrepreneurs help themselves

by Nadav Shemer

Start-up accelerator’s first program outside of US will offer mentorship, money and workspace in NYC to five fortunate companies.
A handful of unknown Israeli Internet start-ups could soon make a name for themselves in the United States, if recently launched start-up accelerator DreamIt Israel has any say in the matter.

DreamIt Israel’s opening was announced last week by Dreamit Ventures, a leading American-based start-up accelerator. Applications have already begun flowing in for the inaugural four-month program, perhaps lured by the prospect of receiving mentorship, guidance, a stipend of up to $25,000 and access to early stage capital.

DreamIt Ventures Launches First Israel-U.S. Accelerator

By Sarah Perez

Startup incubator DreamIt Ventures is announcing the first Israel-U.S. accelerator, which will help up to five Israeli startups expand into the U.S. market through DreamIt’s NYC 2012 program. The new program, called DreamIt Israel, will take place over four months, with the first month in Israel followed by three months in New York. The startups will also participate in two Demo Day events – one in the U.S. and the other back home with local investors.

Despite some VCs’ contention that entrepreneurs still need to be based in the Valley to succeed, Israel has been pushing out innovative new web and mobile startups at a rapid pace, including, of course, Disrupt winner Shaker.

DreamIt hopes to now capitalize on this trend with the new DreamIt Israel program, which kicks off on April 15th. Participating companies will have access to the U.S. and other global markets through the program, plus mentorship, guidance, and up to $25,000 in early stage capital. To qualify, founders must be residing in Israel and holding citizenship or residence.

10 Startup Incubators That Are Changing The Web

Business incubators have been around since the 1950s. Typically attached to universities, these entities offered a proving ground with back-office resources for fledgling entrepreneurs. Now a new breed of incubator, catering mainly to technology types, is springing up all over the country. These startup hubs offer expert mentorship, resources like office space and legal counsel, and even seed money—typically in exchange for a small amount of equity in tiny (or even theoretical) companies. The best incubators are harder to get into than the best Ivy League business schools. More importantly, early-stage investors are paying close attention. Here are 10 incubators putting their mark on the Web and beyond.

Paging emerging health IT startups: DreamIt Ventures wants (to find) you

by Stephanie Baum

Why haven’t you seen more health IT companies accepted into DreamIt Ventures East Coast accelerators?

DreamIt doesn’t know where to find them.

“Health IT is interesting to us, but it’s never been part of our proactive recruiting strategy because we do not know where to source them,” said managing partner Kerry Rupp. “We do the technology meetups and recruit at entrepreneur clubs. If we knew about more opportunities in the health IT space, we would love to have more applicants from that pool.”
